A Review of Contemporary Issues in Computer Science Research Methodology
Main Article Content
Abstract
The role of research methods in conducting any research that can stand the test of time cannot be overemphasized and every field of science requires a sort of conformity with overall approaches to carry out research activities. Until recently, there have been no well-defined and globally accepted methods in computing research due to wider coverage and overlapping with other fields. Hence, this paper presents research methodology in general and specifically the methods researchers in computer science need to consider in conducting research in this field and selecting researchable postgraduate topics in computer science. The classifications system of computer science based on Association for Computing Machinery perspective to serve as guide to researchers in mapping their research interests to specific areas of specialization using contemporary topics is also presented without leaving acceptable ethical issues (such as plagiarism, self-plagiarism, misrepresentation of research findings, authorship and confidentiality in the conduct of research.
